Tigers are reportedly a possible landing spot for free-agent closer David Bednar, who FanSided's Christopher Kline lists among his top destinations. Bednar had 35 saves and a 2.47 ERA with the Yankees in 2026; Jim Bowden projects three years, $55 million. 🔒
Gleyber Torres has officially elected free agency, per MLB.com on Oct. 29. The Tigers second baseman hit .260 with eight homers and 38 RBIs in 96 games in 2026. At 29, he's an intriguing name on the market, and Detroit now has a hole to fill. 🔍
The Tigers community is mourning former outfielder George Thomas, who died October 23, 2026, at age 88. A Minneapolis native and University of Minnesota product, he signed with Detroit in 1957 for a $25,000 bonus. 🕊️
Otto Lopez could be the Tigers' most intriguing offseason trade target, with the Marlins reportedly open to moving him. Detroit's infield remains unsettled, and his .300 average and strong shortstop defense could steady it, if the price is right. 🎯
The Tigers must decide on Kenley Jansen's $12M option for 2027 or pay a $2M buyout, with the deadline five days after the World Series. He posted 22 saves and a 3.20 ERA but blew six saves, and four of his seven homers allowed were walk-offs. He sits two saves shy of 500. ⚖️
Tigers could consider Clay Holmes after he opted out of his $12M Cubs deal. A two-year, $44M contract was predicted for him, close to Jack Flaherty's 2-year, $35M deal. He'd add stability to a young rotation led by Framber Valdez. 🎯
Former Tigers catcher Jake Rogers became a free agent on Oct. 29. Detroit traded him to Baltimore for RHP Zane Barnhart on July 30, and he later landed with Boston and the White Sox. The Tigers missed the 2026 playoffs, so the split stands. 🔍
Tigers could reportedly consider free agent Alec Bohm as Scott Harris looks to upgrade the 2027 infield. MLB.com flagged him as a fit, but there's no report of contact. Bohm hit .274 with 14 HR after May 9, so the bat arrived late. 🔍
Tigers acquired infielder Tsung-Che Cheng from the Red Sox for cash considerations. Detroit's 40-man roster now sits at 36. A low-cost depth pickup after a 2026 that ended without playoffs. 🧾
Keider Montero posted a 3.48 ERA and 2.5 fWAR over 159 innings in 2026, and one writer argues he should stay a starter. His durability and strike-throwing fit the role, while Melton and Ryan could move to the bullpen to help fix it.
Kenley Jansen's $12M option is due Monday, and the call may signal Detroit's offseason approach. He had a 3.20 ERA and 22 saves but six blown saves. Keeping him means business as usual; moving on hints at a real bullpen overhaul. 🔧
Spencer Torkelson is reportedly drawing buzz as a top offseason trade candidate, per MLB Trade Rumors. Nothing is done. A move could open first base for Colt Keith and give younger infielders more time. He hit 26 homers in 2026 and 31 in 2023 and 2025.
ESPN's way-too-early 2027 rankings slot the Tigers 7th, one spot above division-winning Cleveland. Despite a 76-86 finish, David Schoenfield cites a +71 run differential, McGonigle and Clark, and a rotation depth plan, while flagging the bullpen as a need. 📈
A proposed SNY trade idea could have the Yankees pursue Tigers infielder Zach McKinstry for Jasson Dominguez as they seek a Ryan McMahon replacement. McKinstry hit .199/.288/.294 with four homers in 2026 after his 2025 All-Star year. Purely speculative. 🔍
Six Tigers hit free agency after a 76-86 season: Gleyber Torres, Jack Flaherty, Tyler Kinley, Burch Smith and Jacob Waguespack, plus Justin Verlander, whose listing is procedural since he's retired. Scott Harris now has 2027 decisions to make. 📋
Tigers face a busy offseason: eight players return from the 60-day IL, Jansen ($12M) and Anderson ($10M) club options loom, and Hope and Max Anderson need 40-man protection. A looming CBA lockout Dec. 1 could freeze everything else. 🔒
Jacob Waguespack hit free agency, and Detroit should seriously weigh a major league deal. After arriving June 10, he logged 47 innings with a 2.49 ERA and 0.91 WHIP, a rare dependable arm in a shaky bullpen. Rebuild step one: keep the obvious one. 🔒
Tigers free agents now include Flaherty, Kinley, Smith, Torres, Verlander and Waguespack, which would shrink the 40-man roster to 35. The club also mourned Pio DiSalvo, head athletic trainer for 15 seasons, including the 1984 title. 🐯
The Tigers are reportedly acquiring infielder Tsung-Che Cheng from the Red Sox for cash or future considerations, per Andrew Parker. Boston clears a 40-man roster spot, and Detroit adds depth as it tries to get back to the postseason. 🔄
Tigers nearly dealt Tarik Skubal to Milwaukee, reportedly for Luis Peña, Jett Williams and Josh Adamczewski. Brewers wouldn't include Logan Henderson, so Scott Harris took the Dodgers' package of Zyhir Hope and two pitching prospects. Milwaukee then won the title. 🏆
