Red Sox sit at 47 on the 40-man, and seven players return from the 60-day IL after the World Series, while only Gray, Kiner-Falefa and Sandoval hit free agency. That leaves four cuts to make within days. Rivera and Burgos look like obvious candidates. ✂️
Post-World Series, the Red Sox offseason debate: contact or power? One writer argues contact should win out, pointing to Boston's offense lacking both against the Yankees and to the Brewers' put-the-ball-in-play approach as the model. 🎯
Willson Contreras says he and the Red Sox are "on the same page" after his Wild Card frustration with Chad Tracy's quick hook for Sonny Gray. Contreras called the meeting "great" and said it's "going to be good for next year." Tension: defused. 🤝
Riley Adams, a catcher with parts of five MLB seasons, signed a minor league deal with a spring training invite in Boston's first move of the offseason. He sees a path behind Adley Rutschman and Connor Wong, a depth chart with some injury history. 🎯
A retrospective argues three Red Sox were snubbed for postseason MVP: David Price (2018 World Series, 2-0, 1.98 ERA), plus Trot Nixon (3 HR, 1.179 OPS) and Tim Wakefield (2-1, 2.57 ERA) from the 2003 ALCS. Aaron Boone's swing still overshadows both. ⚾
Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller urges Sonny Gray and the Red Sox to reunite for 2027, though Gray could decline his $30M club option after being pulled in Game 2 of the ALWCS. After an 18-5, 2.72 ERA season, he may still land a bigger overall guarantee. 💰
A writer floated five possible landing spots, including Toronto and Houston, if the Red Sox look to move Masataka Yoshida this winter. He's owed $18 million in 2027 and has never topped 1.6 bWAR. Nothing is reported, just a pitch. 🤔
Will Turner led all Red Sox minor leaguers in walks in 2026, hitting .193/.369/.417 with 18 homers, 84 walks and 18 steals for Double-A Portland. His 20.3% walk rate topped the Eastern League; the .219 BABIP kept the average low. 🎯
Red Sox fans have a rooting interest in the World Series: Rays trail Brewers in Game 5, and Boston remains the only team to force a Game 7 after trailing 3-0. A Rays comeback would end that exclusivity. Milwaukee's job: finish it. 🔒
Alex Cora, now out as Boston's manager, said on a podcast that fans booing Caleb Durbin in Fenway introductions was "not Boston." He also called the "sell the team" chants at the home opener a "bad vibe." Durbin went on to prove the boo birds wrong. 🎙️
The Red Sox are hiring Jason Bell, the Astros' longtime field coordinator and outfield coach, to Chad Tracy's 2027 staff. Bell is reportedly set to be the primary outfield instructor, with other duties still to be finalized. A division rival's loss, Boston's gain. 🧢
Red Sox hired Jason Bell away from the Astros, where he was Major League field coordinator and outfield coach, per beat writer Brian McTaggart. He joins Chad Tracy's staff after Tracy's three-year deal through 2029. Quiet offseason raid. 🕵️
The Red Sox are hiring Astros outfield coach and field coordinator Jason Bell for Chad Tracy's major league staff, reportedly as outfield instructor, with extra duties still being sorted out. Houston had said it would keep him. Plans change. ⚾
Looking back at 2026, Erik Miller, acquired at the deadline for Marcelo Mayer, dominated early, then saw walks spike to 23% in September. His wipeout slider and sinker work against lefties, but whether the control is fixable is the big question. 🎯
10/28/2018: En route to helping the Red Sox clinch a World Series title, Steve Pearce put the finishing touches on an MVP performance with two home runs.
Roger Clemens' son Kody just wrapped his best MLB season with the Twins: 27 homers, 81 RBIs in 145 games. Roger spent 13 of his 24 seasons in Boston and won three AL Cy Youngs there. Kody's Twins also swept the Sox at Fenway in May, a first since 1994. ⚾
Former Red Sox David Hamilton and Shane Drohan, throw-ins in the Caleb Durbin trade with Milwaukee, were World Series Game 4 central figures. Hamilton homered, then Drohan blew the 12th-inning save as Tampa Bay walked off, cutting Milwaukee's lead to 3-1. 🎭
Red Sox reportedly may face the Yankees as top rival for Hanshin Tigers slugger Teruaki Sato, per Jim Bowden, who pegs a five-year, $130M deal. Sato won the NPB Triple Crown and MVP in 2026. A Yankees bidding war is rarely a friendly forecast. 💰
A Bleacher Report trade pitch has the Red Sox possibly landing Bobby Witt Jr. from the Royals for Payton Tolle, Wilyer Abreu, Franklin Arias and Justin Gonzalez. Purely a proposal. Boston's price tag would be steep. 🤔
Scotland's Tartan Army took over Fenway on June 14, injecting life into a lost season as the Red Sox fell 6-4 to Texas and dropped to 29-40. The chanting outshined the baseball, and Boston's turnaround reportedly began soon after the Scots left. 🏴
