The Mariners declined Victor Robles' $9 million 2027 option, owing him a $500,000 buyout. After a hot 2024 finish, injuries limited him to 97 games over two seasons, and he was barely replacement-level when healthy. Dipoto's early faith got burned. 🔥
Mariners' bullpen sank to 22nd in ERA in 2026, and the reliever pipeline has dried up. Adam Smith, 26, an Arizona Fall League standout picked up from independent ball in May, could help. He posted a 1.67 ERA in High-A Everett. 🔧
Mariners notes: CJ Gillman has reportedly been hired as hitting coach, with no manager in place yet. Michael Arroyo had an elbow scope and is expected back in April 2027. Washington State also unveiled a John Olerud statue. 🎃
Mariners claimed outfielder Grant McCray off waivers, adding speed (95th percentile) and arm strength (98th) but a passive bat: 93 wRC+ at Triple-A. Fine depth for a thin outfield, just not the offense Seattle needs. 🎯
Michael Arroyo hit .371 with a .953 OPS in 15 September games, but shaky defense clouds his path in Seattle. MLB Pipeline ranks him No. 41, ahead of Lazaro Montes, yet a starting spot isn't guaranteed. Bat ready, glove pending. 🧤
Steven Kwan trade chatter around the Mariners continues. It's speculation only: the Guardians reportedly seem unlikely to deal him, but Seattle's farm system and pitching could fuel an offer. His contact skills offer a solid floor, though power remains the question. 🤔
Offseason calendar is out, and a possible early-December lockout could shift it. Mariners notes: Cole Young is a Gold Glove finalist (announced Nov. 1), and the club already handled contract options. Free agency opens Nov. 2. 📅
Trade speculation links the Mariners to Dodgers outfielder Teoscar Hernandez, a possible reunion after his 2023 Seattle stint (.258/.305/.435, 26 HR). The idea is only speculation; with Randy Arozarena's likely departure, he'd be a low-cost, low-upside fit. 🔄
Mariners prospect Michael Arroyo (No. 3 in the system) had elbow scope surgery to clean up cartilage and brace a chronic UCL issue. He's expected back in April, so 2027 likely starts on the IL, just as left field opens up. 🩹
Logan Gilbert is being floated as a top MLB trade candidate, though nothing is official. Seattle needs bats, and he enters his final contract year after a reported extension offer fell short. Extend him or move him, the clock is ticking. ⏳
MLB Trade Rumors (Mariners): Mariners’ Michael Arroyo Undergoes Elbow Scope Procedure
Mariners were floated as a speculative trade fit for Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran, who hit .207/.266/.361 with 20 HR in 2026. He could replace Randy Arozarena if he leaves, but clubhouse red flags suggest Seattle likely wouldn't bite. 🤔
A Mariners-Diamondbacks pitching trade is floated as a speculative fit: Arizona reportedly wants a controllable starter, and Seattle has surplus arms but needs right-handed bats. A Bryce Miller-for-Jordan Lawlar swap is only an idea, not a done deal. 🔄
Mariners could target free-agent reliever Bryan Abreu, whose 80 strikeouts in 62.2 innings in 2026 would help the bullpen. His 15.3% walk rate is the red flag. This is a suggestion, not a reported pursuit, and no Seattle contact is verified.
Mariners declined 2027 options on Bryce Miller and Victor Robles, and Arozarena, Crawford, Milner and Ward filed for free agency. Payroll sits near $143.3M versus ~$164M in 2026, so trimming more could be needed to fund big moves. 💰
Early 2027 math says the Mariners, at 30.1 fWAR in 2026 (21st), would need roughly 15 more WAR to return to the postseason. The same roster was once projected for 43.4 WAR, so a bounce-back is plausible. The offseason is dynasty or cliff. 📉
The Mariners claimed outfielder Grant McCray off waivers from the Giants on day one of the offseason. They also announced decisions on three team options, while Lookout Landing debated Joe Espada and Jason Kanzler as the next manager. 🧾
ESPN ranks the Mariners 11th and The Athletic 10th in early 2027 power rankings, despite a 76-86 finish and no postseason in 2026. The optimism seems to treat the down year as a fluke, with Julio Rodríguez, Cal Raleigh and Andrés Muñoz all struggling. 🤨
Mariners head into the offseason with a long injury list. Cal Raleigh (shoulder) and Josh Naylor (wrist) had Oct. 3 surgeries and are expected back for spring training. Colt Emerson, Luke Raley and others are also rehabbing. 🩹
Brewers are World Series champs, and the Mariners get a blueprint. A 22-0 loss in Milwaukee in August now looks like a lesson from the best. Top takeaway: patience. Milwaukee swung at a league-low 43.8% of pitches and chased just 26.6%. 🧠
