Mariners claimed outfielder Grant McCray off waivers from the Giants as the offseason opened. SF also outrighted Matt Gage, Osleivis Basabe and Jason Foley to Triple-A Sacramento, and Braxton Roxby went to Washington. Buster Posey's cleanup begins. 🧹

JT Brubaker is the Giants' lone free agent as the offseason opens. The reliever posted a 3.58 ERA over 60 1/3 innings in 41 games on a $1.8M deal. Buster Posey must decide on a return, with a 65-97 bullpen needing arms. 🔧
Drew Gilbert shed the goofball label in 2026, hitting .238/.330/.394 with 11 HR and 43 RBI in 134 games after a mid-April call-up. He likely returns as a center field platoon option, since lefties remain a problem: 5 hits in 63 at-bats. 🧢
Jorge Posada says he doesn't feel welcome with the Yankees, and the Giants offer the opposite case: Buster Posey got baseball operations with no experience. After a 65-97 season, that approach is fair to question, though it's early to call it a mistake.
Ex-Giant Kyle Harrison now owns a World Series ring after Milwaukee beat Tampa Bay in 5 games. He went 11-5 with a 4.20 ERA but never pitched in the playoffs. Meanwhile, the Giants went 65-97. Different October, different zip code. 💍
The Giants are reportedly expected to chase a trade for a starter, with Tampa Bay's Drew Rasmussen floated as a fit. Rasmussen posted a 2.67 ERA and 0.91 WHIP and will earn $20M in 2027. Posey is said to be wary of Skubal-level free-agent prices. 🎯
Ex-Giants infielders Charlie Culberson (Savannah Bananas) and Kelby Tomlinson (Loco Beach Coconuts) were picked in the Banana Ball draft for 2027. Culberson's 2012 trade helped bring Marco Scutaro to SF. Banana Ball also hits Oracle Park in 2027. 🍌
Giants' pitching staff gets streamlined: Justin Meccage stays pitching coach, Frank Anderson becomes assistant, Jesse Chavez remains bullpen coach, and Christian Wonders shifts to minors development. Next up: Massacre Day, with a packed 60-day list and one open 40-man spot. 🔪
The Giants embraced the Year of the Bunt under Tony Vitello, hitting .500 on 67 bunt attempts, up from 41 in 2024 and 39 in 2025. The Rays (129 PAs) and Brewers (89) led the way, but San Francisco finally zigged too. 🔒
Ex-Giants infielder Kelby Tomlinson, the glasses-wearing contact hitter, was picked by the Loco Beach Coconuts in the fifth round of Wednesday's Banana Ball Draft. His MLB run: 273 games, all with San Francisco, a .265 average. Next stop: yellow jerseys. 🍌

An all-time Giants World Series lineup, built from San Francisco-era players, leads off with Willie Mays and bats Jeff Kent ahead of Barry Bonds, who hit .471 with four homers in 2002. Will Clark is at first base, and McCovey is in right. 🔥
Frank Anderson moves from Director of Major League Pitching to assistant pitching coach, with Buster Posey saying the shift clarifies the chain of command and makes Justin Meccage the top pitching voice. 🎯 Fixing a bullpen that ranked near the bottom of the league starts with a nameplate.
Buster Posey says the Giants must "push it to the brink" in pitcher training and accept setbacks, even Tommy John. That comes after Birdsong, McDonald, Whisenhunt and Tidwell all had elbow surgery in 2026. Higher ceiling, higher risk. 🎯
Giants pitchers ranked 25th in walk rate (3.75 BB/9) in 2026, and Buster Posey said "Walks killed us." Free agent Shota Imanaga, a strike-thrower with a 3.45 ERA over three Cubs seasons, is floated as a possible fit. 🎯
Brandon Crawford, a member of the Giants' last World Series roster in 2014, posted a family vacation photo on Instagram this week, captioned "Break in the Bahamas 🇧🇸." Offseason quiet, with the Giants coming off a year that missed the playoffs.
The Rays won Game 4 in 12 innings, so the Brewers' sweep bid failed and the Giants remain the last team to sweep a World Series (2012 over Detroit). The gap is now the longest since 1914, and it will reach at least 15 years. 🧹
